Not ruled out that ‘Yelq’ prefers extraordinary elections and does not nominate candidate: ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’

July 11,2018 08:37

Head of the “Yelq ” faction, David Khazhakyan, addressing the question whether who will be their candidate, said: “I promise that whenever Taron Margaryan resigns, we will decide that within the next hour”.

More than one and a half months later, however, it is not ruled out that the “Yelq” may prefer extraordinary elections of the City Council and not to nominate any candidate for Mayor from current members, because the composition of the faction has changed considerably during this time, many Council members from “Yelq” have been nominated for different positions.

“If we compare the members of the faction now and then, the decision, of course, cannot be the same. We need to discuss and understand, whether we will nominate anyone, or not, and if so, then whom. As I said, the composition of the faction has changed almost by 30 percent, and it is not easy at this point to answer that question. This will be discussed and maybe there will be political expediency not to nominate a candidate. This is only one of the options”, said David Khazhakyan.

In response to the question whether why it is an expediency not to nominate a candidate, he said that if there is no candidate or the candidate receives not enough votes, extraordinary elections will be held. “Three days after this, we have to have a Council session, decide the election day, which should be held from 2 weeks to 30 days period. The Mayor’s election may be done within 33 days from the current Council members, while the extraordinary elections of the Council within 74 days, at the latest”, David Khazhakyan clarified.
