‘If Armenian citizen has acquired other citizenship, he must be conscripted’: Deputy Defence Minister of Armenia

“Armenian national, who is not a citizen of the Republic of Armenia cannot be conscripted. It is provided by law. And if they want to serve in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia anyway, they should apply to receive an Armenian citizenship,” informed the Deputy Minister of Defence, Gabriel Balayan.

He added: “If a person, being a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, has acquired a citizenship of another country, then he is subject to conscription in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. And if he has been the citizen of another country and afterwards acquired Armenian citizenship and if upon the factual document he has served in the Armed Forces of another country for 12 months, he is released from the responsibility to serve in the Republic of Armenia.”
