Richard Mills expects audits to spread over the whole mining field unilaterally: ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’

July 13,2018 13:41

The Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Armenia, Richard Mills is satisfied by the decision of the government of Armenia to hold an environmental audit of Amulsar gold project, however, he expects the audits to unilaterally spread over the whole mining field, emphasized Ambassador Mills, responding to the request of “Haykakan Zhamanak” (The Armenian Times).

It has been already several days that “Amulsar” mine construction project by “Lydian Armenia” company in Vayots Dzor Region of the Republic of Armenia is stopped, inasmuch as a group of citizens protest against the company.

“Lydian Armenia”, the daughter company of “Lydian International Limited” is one of the companies providing the largest American investment to Armenia’s economy currently.

Even after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Amulsar and the meeting between the environmentalists and representatives of “Lydian Armenia”, the solution of the problem still remains vague.

The sides do not go for compromises. Environmentalists and a part of the residents of Jermuk village demand to stop mine exploitation, which is categorically unacceptable to “Lydian Armenia” company.

The mining company views the application to arbitration court to protect its investments and restore its violated rights as an option.
