Samvel Nikoyan on Nikol Pashinyan’s moral responsibility of ‘March 1’

July 13,2018 14:34

The president of the former parliamentary commission on “March 1” case, Samvel Nikoyan regards the matter of whom to interrogate or what to do as the judicial system’s responsibility. He views the invitation of interrogation sent to the Second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan and the Defence Minister of 2008, Mikayel Harutyunyan within this context. Referring to the aforementioned, Mr. Nikoyan said he had no clue if Robert Kocharyan had anything to be concerned of, or not. He said the investigation would reveal.

As regards Mikayel Harutyunyan’s interrogation, he informed that during his term of office the commission presided by him had no issue of investigating the army’s participation in those incidents. That question has come about a year after the commission stopped functioning.

Samvel Nikoyan reminded that the commission presided by him found it was required to find out if there was an expert group or respective technology to carry out identification of “Cheryomukha” usage: it will give the answer of the most important question – whose actions caused victims.

“It seems today that question is withdrawn to the background and I consider it of the first importance to reveal whose actions caused victims.” He thinks it is perhaps possible to provide the identification. Ten years have passed, technology and science have progressed.

Samvel Nikoyan also addressed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s participation in the protests of those days and the statements as if he was one of the persons responsible for the incidents of March 1. He reminded that in his speech Mr. Pashinyan had applied to the First President asking why he had not come to the Freedom Square and called on the people to calm down: “And another part of the opposition called on the people to stay and strengthen their positions. If those people are not morally responsible?”

Let us remind you that on March 1, 2018, a row of protesters was shot dead by the Police in Armenia. The Second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan is widely blamed for giving a permission to open a fire and inviting armed forces to participate, which brought forth a huge fuss. However, his guilt has not been proven yet. The case is investigated presently.
