‘It seems Mr. Aliyev fears Azerbaijani people may get inspired by democracy processes in Armenia’: Armenian Prime Minister on situation on Armenia-Azerbaijan border

July 16,2018 14:32

“To be armed, awake and ready for any provocation by Azerbaijan at any moment,” this is Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s message to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and the whole Armenian nation.

Mr. Pashinyan stated that accumulations in some units on Armenia-Azerbaijan border still continue, such situation was in place before April War: “They want the Armenian side to get used to those accumulations. Deconstructive actions by Azerbaijan from Nakhijevan side are in place. Mr. Aliyev has inner-political issues. It seems he fears that Azerbaijani people may get inspired by democratic processes in Armenia and initiate political processes against corruption and for the sake of democracy there too. It is for this reason that I also say that any aggressive action by Azerbaijan is directed not only to the Republic of Armenia but also Azerbaijani people.”

According to Nikol Pashinyan, the situation on the border is not news, but we should not underestimate the situation. Nikol Pashinyan sees the positive side of this as well: Armenians are united in the Republic of Armenia, Artsakh, and Diaspora now more than ever.

Again, returning to Azerbaijan’s behavior, Mr. Pashinyan said: “Azerbaijan performs aggression in the level of vocabulary, gestures, and actions on the border, but we should be ready for a counteraction and defense. Any Armenian should be ready to leave everything at any moment and take up the defense of the fatherland. That my son serves in Artsakh is another step, and that he should show everyone that we will not spare anything to defend our fatherland and counterattack the adversary, is another one.”
