No agreement has been reached upon Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting during the recent meeting between Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Brussels. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tigran Balayan told reporters about this at a briefing. At the same time, according to Balayan, the two foreign ministers agreed to continue communicating.
“There is an unofficial viewpoint that the negotiations on the Karabakh conflict should be paused because parliamentary elections are ahead, but we believe that the pre-election period should not be an obstacle to achieving a success in negotiation and peace-building process. Our position is that the most important is the security and status of Artsakh”, Tigran Balayan clarified.
According to him, Mnatsakanyan-Mammadyarov meeting also discussed the border situation, in particular, the need to ensure peace-making atmosphere: “It is about the fulfillment of the agreements: increase in the capacity of the OSCE Chairman’s personal representative, the introduction of investigative mechanisms. Azerbaijan has been hampering their implementation for more than two years”.
