Armen Ashotyan: Parliament Will Demand from Government Related to Implementation of RA-EU Agreement

On July 23, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan met with the Member of the German Bundestag Christoph Ploß.

At the meeting the Head of the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung/Foundation (KAS) Regional Program, Political Dialogue South Caucasus Thomas Schrapel, as well as the Head of the Armenia Office Liana Marukyan.

Welcoming the guests in the RA National Assembly, Armen Ashotyan highlighted the development of the relations existing between the parliaments.

During the meeting the sides touched upon the perspectives of the economic development between the two countries. The German parliamentarian has noted that in Germany there is interest towards the implementation of the investments in Armenia and regarding this highlighted ensuring of the investment security.

The interlocutors also touched upon Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, with regards to which the Committee Chair has underlined that it is the achievement of the former authorities’ foreign policy, and the parliament will demand from the government related to the implementation of the RA-EU Agreement.

Armen Ashotyan expressed hope that soon the German Parliament also would be among the countries that ratified the agreement.

Regarding the issues of the foreign and security policies the Committee Chair noted that Armenia would continue the policy adopted by the previous authorities, trying to do its best for building its foreign policy not on the basis of contradicting the geopolitical players’ interests, but comparing it.

The recent processes going on in Armenia were referred to, and issues on the electoral legislation reforms were discussed. In the process of the electoral legislation reforms Armen Ashotyan emphasized the establishment of the electoral reforms by the political wide consent, public involvement and on the basis of the international standards, particularly the recommendations of the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR.

The Committee Chair has noted that irrespective of the fact what inner-political developments go on in Armenia, even the political forces being on the opposite sides in the security and foreign political issues will try to do utmost for boosting the state interest of Armenia.
