The State Revenue Committee Investigative Department started to carry out a tax audit for tropical fruits import and wholesale trade in “Catherine Group”, as well as affiliated companies such as “Max Fruit”, “Fruit World” and “Melatropic” still in May 2018. As a result of the audit, these companies paid over 600 million drams additional tax liabilities to the state budget.
On May 16, 2018, the State Revenue Committee Investigative Department made a decision to terminate the criminal prosecution and the criminal proceedings on the abovementioned case on the grounds that the damage to the state had been restored.
Further inspection activities of the tax body have revealed new grounds for filing tax liabilities subject to additional payments to these companies, on the basis of which the prosecutor made a decision to abolish the decision not to prosecute and to discontinue the criminal proceedings.
The State Revenue Committee Investigative Department has resumed the criminal proceedings: decisions have been made to carry out new tax audits in “Catherine Group”, “Max Fruit”, “Fruit World” and “Melatropic” companies. The preliminary investigation is underway.
