The second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, announces that he does not accept the indictment brought against him by the Special Investigative Service.
Speaking about the violations of the constitutional order during the March 1 events, he said: “That was the parliament to make decisions. They could cancel that. It did not happen. No one called me to tell it should have been canceled. It was clear to everyone that the situation could not be restrained in another way. You know what, if this did not happen, the number of victims could be three times more. All this is illegal. This government that has come to power by blocking streets and makes an extremely illicit decision while speaking about legitimacy. They say we have nothing to do with the Special Investigative Service, whereas these episodes emerged after changing the head of the Service. The Service had carried out investigation earlier”.
In response to the remark that the authorities might have not allowed, Kocharyan said: “Let them arrest the one who has not allowed. I was not in power after April 9. Moreover, my relations with the authorities were tense since I always criticized and expressed my disagreements on various issues. I could not influence the process”.
