The Republican Party of Armenia Faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, becoming familiar with the accusation under the criminal case initiated against the Second President of the Republic of Armenia and the First President of the Republic of Artsakh, Robert Kocharyan, and the decision to detention, announces:
- This process has no ties with democracy, rule of law and the independence of judicial authority.
- The lodged appeal will deeply harm the inner political developments of the Republic of Armenia.
- Such ungrounded accusations encourage tendencies of public separation in the country that become more dangerous on the background of extremely troubling challenges formed around Armenia and Artsakh.
- The initiated case is problematic from the perspective of legitimacy and constitutionality in particular, which can lead not only to the violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms, but also decrease of the rating and reputation of the Republic of Armenia in international and legal instances.
- The Special Investigative Service of the Republic of Armenia, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia and the Courts of the Republic of Armenia are obliged to recommend the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia properly and be guided exceptionally upon the demands and the regulations of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, the Laws of the Republic of Armenia, as well as upon the demands of the international laws and regulations.
- The Republican Faction will voice about this issue and the developments around it also through parliamentary diplomatic pipes in the respective international platforms and by respective formats.
