“We take our steps in concert with the provisions of CSTO Agreement,” referring to the criminal persecution against CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov (he is accused of violating constitutional order), said the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Tigran Balayan.
Let us remind you that the Republic of Armenia has suggested its CSTO colleagues to initiate the process of the change of the Secretary General. “Active discussions and communications are carried out in that direction with our CSTO colleagues currently,” informed Tigran Balayan. According to him, the initiative of applying to CSTO colleagues by Armenia is grounded: “Our inclusion in CSTO aims to contribute to the strengthening of the institution. The Republic of Armenia is not going to take any step harming CSTO reputation. It should proceed with its regular activity. We have informed our CSTO colleagues of this.”
Tigran Balayan emphasized that Yuri Khachaturov is still CSTO Secretary General: “As long as the CSTO Council has not made a decision on replacing him, he continues his office. It is clear that someone should replace him, but he is the Secretary General at the moment. Who will replace him, how and in what period of time will be clear after the discussions.”
