In its pre-electoral plan “Yelq” made a promise that “the second chamber of the Armenian Parliament would be created, which would consist of representatives of the Armenian Diaspora colonies, who would be elected through the elections held in the colonies”.
Aravot.am asked Daniel Ioannisyan, Secretary of the “Electoral Code” Reform Commission adjunct to the Prime Minister, whether changes in the “Electoral Code” are not envisaged in this regard.
Daniel Ioannisyan responded: “To be honest, I do not know, but let me say that regardless of whether it is a good idea, or bad idea, it is regulated by the Constitution. We write “Electoral Code” within the current Constitution. We simply do not discuss the issues that contradict the current constitutional provisions. Whether the parliament will have two chamber or three is an issue regulated by the Constitution, we are not discussing it right now”.
