The leaders and representatives of religious minorities in Turkey have made a statement denying the gossips about the pressure on representatives of other religions in Turkey.
Constantinople-Armenian MP Garo Paylan has commented on the statement. He has made the following post on his Twitter page: “They do not allow us to elect our own Patriarch, to open our religious school, to hold elections of the heads of the church funds, and the rest of the community is as timid as doves, but “live freely”. This statement itself is a proof that we are not free”.
Let us note that, according to the “Agos” weekly, the joint statement refers to US Vice President Mike Pence’s statements on American priest Andrew Branson’s arrest in Turkey. The latter had stated that the Turkish government accuses Branson of splitting the country by spreading Christianity there.
