“Does the Prime Minister believe that if they say “we are the loyal allies of Russia”, Russia will be satisfied with that and not exert pressure? There was pressure. Lavrov expressed his opinion. It means that this thesis, repeated by our authorities, did not work out, Russia interfered in our internal affairs”, referring to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement on criminal prosecution against Armenian second President Robert Kocharyan, said political scientist Armen Badalyan. He was not satisfied with the response of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman to Lavrov’s statement.
“Do they believe that if they say that it is an internal process, Putin and Lavrov will stop interfering in the internal affairs of Armenia? Why do they repeat the same thing at the Foreign Ministry level?”, noted Armen Badalyan. According to him, Russia did not like Robert Kocharyan’s arrest: “Armenia should have given a correct answer to Russia and say that he was arrested for some actions, instead of stating it was done in the framework of fight against corruption”.
According to the expert, it is true that another country should not interfere in the internal affairs of Armenia, but the situation is different in case of Russia: “Russia is our ally, but we should not have been afraid of giving such an answer to Lavrov”.
