“Negotiating positions of the Armenian side are in good state. Nikol Pashinyan made the right statement saying that Artsakh should immediately return to the negotiation table. That is a right approach. It turns out that for the first time in the negotiation format we act not as a defender but as an initiator”, Armen Martirosyan, leader of the “Heritage” party, expressed such an opinion on the current stage of talks on the Artsakh conflict.
According to him, the “Madrid Principles”, the document of compromise solution to the conflict, is no longer actual: “Other formats and approaches are needed now, regardless of the fact that the Armenian authorities have previously recognized the “Madrid Principles”. Bringing Artsakh back to negotiation table can be one of those steps. There is a need for new proposals now”.
According to Armen Martirosyan, as long as Azerbaijan has not agreed to implement the agreements reached during the previous meetings: increasing the number of observers on the contact line, introducing investigation mechanisms for incidents, excluding force use, there is no sense to move forward.
