In the result of the operative-investigative events carried out by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia within the frameworks of the criminal case on the incidents taken place in Yerevan from March 1 to 2, 2008, investigated by the Special Investigative Service (SIS), information has been received that large number of weapons were illegally kept in the mechanic-repair factory of Mkhchyan of Ararat region of the Republic of Armenia, which belongs to the former Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan factually and formulated under Smbik Gevorgyan’s name.
The searches in the mentioned location that the investigators of the Special Investigative Service carried out jointly with the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia officers on August 6 and 7, 2018, revealed illegally kept arms and weapons, including 3 autorifles, 7 “AK-74” machine guns, 2 “SVD” sniper rifles, 3 rifles of different types, 2 guns and bullets of different calipers that are also considered weaponry.
Smbik Gevorgyan and Hovik Abrahamyan’s brother – Henrik Abrahamyan, were arrested under the suspicion of acquiring and keeping weapons illegally.
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and the Special Investigative Service of the Republic of Armenia jointly carry out urgent operative-investigative events and actions, to check the sources of the weapons and the circumstance of their usage in March 1 and 2, 2008 incidents. Preliminary investigation proceeds.
