Edward Militonyan, President of the Writers’ Union of Armenia, said that they are patiently waiting for good reforms, and following whether what path the cultural policy will take. The President of the Writers’ Union noted that the velvet revolution has a tough “lining”: a fight against injustice: “We see that many injustice cases in our country have been revealed already. What was being rumored verbally about oligarchs, their bodyguards, and officials, today is being revealed”.
According to Edward Militonyan, the March 1 case is somehow related to the October 27 case, because if a case is not totally revealed, many such cases can follow it. Edward Militonyan believes it is risky to appoint inexperienced people in high-rank posts at once: “Appointing inexperienced persons in high-rank posts who have not dealt with managing even two-three people is risky. There have been unsuccessful appointments, and these people had to leave their posts. There were people who thought they were the inventors of the world”.
The President of the Writers’ Union of Armenia noted that he had had a meeting with the Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts: “I told Ms. Makunts that literary questions should be discussed mainly in a literary environment. It would be good to discuss these issues with other experts too, but a writer knows writers’ problems better than anyone else. Problems related to certain specialties should be discussed with specialists. We have made a proposal, and are waiting for the response”.
