Mr. Kocharyan does not have any particular complaints about the conditions of the detention. He can have a workout, an hourly walk, and a chance to work on his book”, Aram Orbelyan, one of the second President’s defenders, told reporters after the Criminal Court of Appeals session on the appeal of the petition to change the preventive measure against Robert Kocharyan. The defender also said that Robert Kocharyan is prohibited to have family visits. Defenders are going to appeal this decision of the investigator as well.
Let us remind that Robert Kocharyan’s defenders had applied to the Court of Appeals appealing the decision of the first instance court on detaining him. One of the defenders, Hayk Alumyan, has filed a petition to the Court of Appeal to change detention as a preventive measure against Robert Kocharyan on bail. The decision will be published on August 13.
Robert Kocharyan is indicted for overthrowing the constitutional order of Armenia along with several other people on March 1, 2008.
Let us remind that mass protests were held in Armenia, after presidential elections on 2008. The protests were organized by the supporters of the First President of Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian. During the protest held on March 1, 2008, clashes broke out between police and protesters. President Robert Kocharyan declared a 20-day state of emergency.
