Expert on the US affairs Suren Sargsyan believes that Armenia will also suffer from the sanctions against neighboring Iran imposed by the United States. “Armenia’s trading with Iran will become more complicated. Sanctions will be widespread in Iran”, said Suren Sargsyan at a press conference.
According to him, Armenia should negotiate with the United States to compensate Armenia’s losses as a result of its sanctions against Iran. “It can be in the form of an increase in US foreign aid to Armenia, the volume of which is more than ever low now”.
The expert is concerned that the US sanctions on Iran will eventually have a serious impact on Armenia: “If the sanctions apply also to Iranian energy companies, they will not be able to cooperate with Armenia. I think there will be reconsiderations regarding the energy field”.
According to Suren Sargsyan, sanctions are also threatening Iranian banks and private financiers, which is also a threat to Armenia-Iran energy cooperation: “Sanctions may apply also to economic programs. Thus, Armenia should negotiate with the US so that the sanctions imposed on Iran do not affect Armenia as well”.
