At 12 AM on August 17, 2018, a group of 15 people from the opponent’s side attempted an attack on one of the Artsakh Defense Army’s northern military positions. Units of the Defense Army stopped the attack on time and pushed the attackers back to their positions.
Artsrun Hovhannisyan, spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, spoke to Aravot.am in an interview in connection to these events. He was asked what he considers this attack in connection to and whether he thought that the opponent tried to create tension before the gathering in Yerevan. He responded, “I am unable and incompetent to speak in too much detail about whether this has to do with politics or domestic politics. I am only able to say that any attempt at an attack carried out by Azerbaijan, whether it be towards Nakhichevan, towards somewhere else, or towards Artsakh, will be met with the appropriate response. Nothing will go unpunished. The Armenian side has no losses, but I am unable to say anything about the opponent right now.”
Overall, regarding the situation at the border, Artsrun Hovhannisyan said, “It is relatively calm. There are not too many gunshots.”
