Pashinyan to Citizens: ‘From Now on You Decide Prime Minister’

August 18,2018 14:41

Prime Minister of Armenian Nikol Pashinyan began the gathering celebrating his 100th day in office by introducing the members of the new government and his political team to the citizens of Armenia. Some of them included ministers, members of the ‘Yelq’ alliance and Members of Parliament Lena Nazaryan, Ararat Mirzoyan, and Sasun Mikayelyan (Aram Sargsyan and Edmon Marukyan were not present), members of the ‘Civil Contract’ political party, and the party’s candidate for Yerevan mayor, actor Hayk Marutyan. Pashinyan asked citizens to also welcome all members of government who were not present at the event. “Let’s also welcome members of my political team who are not here right now.”

The Prime Minister considered the events of the day to be an exceptional occurrence. “This is the first time something like this has taken place in Armenia. Hundreds of thousands of Armenian citizens, police, hundreds of members of the National Security Service, thousands of our fellow countrymen who came from Artsakh, Russia, the USA, Europe, Iran, Lebanon, and members of the Armenian diaspora from other countries are all present. The peace of our country is being defended by glorious generals, officers, and soldiers, who are with us in spirit.”

Remembering the day he was elected into office, Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that it was the citizens’ victory since they were the ones who made that choice. “From now on, you will be the ones to decide who will be the Prime Minister. Until now, the international community cannot understand what has happened in the Republic of Armenia. No one had ever expected that such a national awakening could take place in Armenia without violence, without gunshots, and without casualties. The power of the Armenian people who made this unprecedented event possible is mighty and exceptional.”
