Judge Mesrop Makyan ruled that members of the armed group ‘Sasna Tsrer’ that took over the Police Patrol Service Regiment, Arayik Khandoyan, and Varuzhan Avetisyan, should be released from custody. The letters of recommendation written by parliament members Shake Isayan, Naira Zohrabyan, and Hakob Nazaryan of the ‘Tsarukyan’ alliance served as the basis for their release. The MPs guaranteed that Khandoyan and Avetisyan will be present for all court processions and will not avoid investigations if they are released.
Arayik Khandoyan’s relatives and friends from combat brought him out of the courtroom on their hands. His relatives were crying from happiness, and so was he.
Freedom fighter Arayik Khandoyan, also known as ‘The Lone Wolf,’ is accused of illegally possessing and firing weapons, holding hostages, taking over buildings meant for security, and executing a dangerous act of violence threatening life and health, or threatening to do that for taking his weapon. Varuzhan Avetisyan is accused first of planning mass disorder on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015, and then for taking over security buildings, illegally firing weapons, stealing weapons, and for destroying property at the Police Patrol Service Regiment.
