Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during the gathering on Republic Square to celebrate his 100th day in office, discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections and specifically spoke about certain procedures.
“According to the law, I have to resign, and the National Assembly needs to not elect a new prime minister two times so that new elections can take place. Some people are saying ‘let’s allow him to resign so that we can secretly elect another prime minister.’ These people still do not understand what is taking place in the Republic of Armenia.”
Nikol Pashinyan continued. “That is why we will make changes to the Constitution, which will not only allow for parliamentary elections when the prime minister resigns but also for the parliament to decide whether or not to dissolve. The National Assembly itself has to accept this change. That will only take place when the citizens demand it. If that happens, we will ensure that it takes place in the parliament. Do you remember when I once advised the Republicans not to walk on tightrope on Satan’s sidewalk? I am now advising the same thing.”
According to Nikol Pashinyan, from now on, before making important decisions, the people have to gather on Republic Square and allow the government to make certain decisions. “We will strengthen the institution of referendums so that the people will make many decisions through local and national referendums. The government and people will even come to a conclusion for important international decisions through referendums. This is the main change that will turn into the second wave of our revolution.”
