“President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is continuing to talk about all the territories ‘occupied’ by Armenia and about the ‘cruelty’ of the Armenian people in all of his meetings. That tool of encouragement will only be used more often in the future. We must regard this in a relaxed manner. No matter what Azerbaijan does, the only one who can solve this problem and who can ensure the security of the Republic of Armenia is the army,” said international relations specialist Suren Sargsyan at the ‘Henaran’ news station regarding the current resolution process of the Artsakh conflict. He is convinced that, despite the fact that there are opinions that there is a possibility of escalation of military conflict, the situation in Artsakh will not be solved through war. “Azerbaijan does not have that possibility.”
As far as Artsakh returning to the negotiations table in the near future, the expert said, “I don’t believe that Artsakh will be a part of the negotiation process, because then Azerbaijan will simply not join the negotiations. Aliyev will not be able to explain to his people why he met with someone whom he called a ‘criminal’ and ‘the leader of separatists.’ I am talking about Bako Sahakyan. It’s obvious that this can’t happen.”
According to Suren Sargsyan, Artsakh will be a part of the negotiations process at some point, but not right now. “The voices of the people of Artsakh will be heard because it’s impossible to, for example, sign papers in Moscow without asking the opinion of the people. But I think that, if a meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Aliyev takes place soon, Artsakh will not be a part of it.”
