A statue of an Armenian gampr dog was unveiled on August 23rd at 17:30 next to ‘Poplavok’ in Yerevan.

People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia and sculptor Levon Tokmajyan made the statue. The artist said in an interview that the statue was a present from the Armenian community in the Netherlands to Yerevan in honor of the city’s 2,800th anniversary.

The artist stated that the gampr statue is made of bronze. It is 1 meter and 50 centimeters high, and the small rocky pedestal underneath its feet symbolizes the Armenian mountains.

Levon Tokmajyan said that the qualities of the Armenian gampr dog are very similar to the qualities of the Armenian people. The qualities of trustworthiness, honesty, and maturity are typically associated with Armenians. “I think that this is a great present to Yerevan and to the people of Yerevan… I see how people approach the statue and how some even hug it. Children especially really loved it.”
