Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, on her official visit to Armenia, was greeted by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Zvartnots airport in Yerevan. After the official greeting ceremony, she was led by the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrap Mnatsakanyan and the temporary mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan to the Tsitsernakaberd memorial to pay her respects to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
This is the first time that a German chancellor has visited Armenia since independence.
