Welcoming Chancellor Angela Merkel and German delegation, President Armen Sarkissian expressed confidence that this historic visit will open new horizons in the Armenian-German relations. This is the first official visit of Chancellor Merkel to Armenia but she has visited our country before.
“I would like to note with satisfaction that relations between Armenia and Germany are anchored in understanding and deep trust. Germany is a very important partner for Armenia, and our cooperation holds great potential for expansion in different areas. Certainly, I would like to note with satisfaction the fact that Germany has recognized the Armenian Genocide and also thank for political support which will feel in our cooperation with the European Union since the Armenia-EU relations are very important for us,” President Armen Sarkissian said.
Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed satisfaction and thanks for hospitality extended to her in Armenia. “Dear Mr. Sarkissian. I am glad to be here, in your country and I am glad to meet with you. Last year, our countries commemorated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Today, we can state that our relations are positive. I agree with you that our relations hold untapped potential, and it should be used in the political, economic as well as scientific and technological areas. We would like to bring our share to the reforms in Armenia; we were following closely the changes and developments that took place in your country last spring. We are ready to cooperate down this difficult but important road.”
At the meeting, the parties spoke also about the Armenia-EU cooperation and discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral relations in different areas such as culture, education, and science.
