“Azerbaijani authorities repeated the same statement this whole time. From his point of view, Aliyev did not make a mistake in saying such a thing. The question is whether we present the issue of the Artsakh conflict in such a way that such an announcement won’t have an influence on any national leader during meetings,” Advisor to the President of Armenia, political scientist, and former member of parliament Tevan Poghosyan said in an interview regarding the press conference German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held together, in which Aliyev announced that “Armenia has occupied Azerbaijani territory.”
Regarding the fact that Merkel did not say anything about the territories, Tevan Poghosyan said, “Merkel won’t say what Aliyev wants her to. Just as she perhaps won’t say something beneficial for us. We must understand that Germany is thinking about its own benefit in foreign policy.”
