On August 28th, in a press conference, temporary spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anna Naghdalyan was asked what Armenia’s position on Azerbaijan joining the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is. She answered, “Decisions are made in the EAEU based on the consensus. And we have expressed our position, which is not up for discussion. It has also been expressed recently by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan.”
To clear up the question of what the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s official position is on Azerbaijan joining the CSTO is, Anna Naghdalyan answered, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official position is that if such a question arises, Armenia will use its right to veto.”
