The “My Step” alliance’s candidate from the “Civil Contract” political party for Yerevan mayor in the upcoming City Council elections, Hayk Marutyan, held a speech about the fundraiser event that was organized to help raise funds for the election campaign.
“The situation in Armenia today is very clear: there are light forces and there are dark forces, that’s it. I want to officially announce that we are the light forces- though I’m sure you all already know- but everyone who doesn’t want us to be successful can be considered dark forces. Because our success is also Armenia’s success. None of us have any personal gains or personal ambitions in all of this,” Marutyan said.
The candidate from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s political party said that they’re holding a fundraiser in order to continue their political fight.
Hayk Marutyan said that their team that will be participating in the elections is strong: “I can even say you can’t beat our team. But, my friends, fellow citizens of Yerevan, and my relatives, without your participation- without your active participation- we won’t achieve anything. Sorry for putting it this way, but from now on, it is our responsibility to dedicate 20 percent of our lives to public gains and to society. We can only be successful in this way.”
Marutyan used 1945 Germany as an example for becoming successful in difficult times, saying that Germans were able to reconstruct their destroyed country. “Our Yerevan is in a very bad condition. But I am confident that, if the Germans were able to do it and they’re people just like us, and we all have blood running through us… if they were able to do it, then it’s impossible for us to not be able to. It’s impossible and we don’t foresee such a thing. We’re going to make our city into the kind of city that Germans will go back home and tell their fellow countrymen about it.”
