The events taking place in Armenia, particularly the investigation of events that took place over the past ten years, are part of the country’s internal affairs, but that needs to remain within the limits of the law and constitution. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this in a meeting with students and professors.
“We are worried that the situation in Armenia continues to boil, especially since events that took place over the past ten years are being investigated and arrests are taking place,” Lavrov said. “We consider that to be a part of Armenia’s internal affairs. And we would like for those internal affairs to remain within the limits of the law and constitution, and also for them to come to a conclusion soon so that Armenia can focus on creative tasks.”
Lavrov also said that Russia wants for the situation in countries that have positive relations and military alliances with Moscow to remain stable, “So that internal colleagues can advance through constitutional means and for there to be possibilities for advancing the economy and social issues.” “This is everything that we are trying to do through our integrational economic union- the EAEU- and through security- the CSTO,” Lavrov said.
He said that nevertheless, Russia is following events taking place in Armenia very carefully. “We haven’t made any movements or announcements which, even limited, could’ve been considered to be intrusion upon internal affairs. I can’t said that other foreign ministers have reacted similarly.”
