The Standing Committee on State and Legal Protection of Human Rights will discuss the project put forth by parliament members from the “Yelq” alliance Lena Nazaryan and Alen Simonyan, where March 1st victims’ families will be compensated, at the next session. President of the committee Gevorg Kostanyan announced this during the recent session. He added that the Republican Party will vote in favor of the project.
A similar project was suggested in the previous parliament by opposition member Nikol Pashinyan. It became clear later on that the Armenian National Congress and members of the alliance did not agree to the project. It did not receive enough votes to go into effect.
Gevorg Kostanyan said that this is the appropriate time for such a project to go into effect. The Republican Party has suggested that this project not only be for the families of victims of March 1st, but for anyone who was a victim of violence, including victims of the shooting on October 27th, 1999, victims of violence at the border, and more.
