“I think that our military gains are of such high importance and meaning that any other issue we face is not as important,” said ARF union leader Armen Rustamyan during a meeting with reporters in parliament. He was referring to Armenian-Russian relations and the problems that they face. In this context, Armen Rustamyan has high expectations for the upcoming Pashinyan-Putin meeting on September 8th.
The ARF parliamentarian especially considers it to be important that Armenia’s position on the Artsakh conflict resolution be presented clearly. Answering the question of whether or not he thinks Nikol Pashinyan has any concept of the Artsakh dispute, Armen Rustamyan said, “When I met with Pashinyan, his viewpoint on this issue was satisfying. We spoke about how Armenia needs to make sure that the Artsakh resolution be based on the desire of the people of Artsakh. Now, problems have risen due to the fact that the prime minister cannot immediately handle negotiations, because he does not have the same authority as his predecessors did. But this does not mean that Armenia is trying to avoid negotiations. This is the biggest problem that needs to be made clear. Besides that, Azerbaijan is trying to override the decisions made in Vienna and Saint Petersburg, basing its reasoning off of the changes that took place in Armenia. We cannot allow this.”
