It was announced recently that the Armenian judo team will not be traveling to Baku. The World Championships will be taking place in Baku, where the 2020 Olympic game ratings will be raffled. The reason is because the host nation did not give written reassurance that the Armenian athletes’ safety will be fully protected.
However, the Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports, Azad Rahimov, said the opposite in an interview with the TACC. According to him, “The Armenian judo team, just as in previous competitions, received written validation before the World Championships that their safety and visas will be officially protected. Copies of the letter have been sent to the International and European Judo Federations. We have carried out all of our responsibilities, so it is not clear what the problem is,” he said.
The World Championships will begin on September 30th.
