When asked if the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrossian should be investigated in the March 1st case, founder of the “Heritage” political party Raffi Hovhannisyan said, “Yes.” According to him, “Not only the first president but also the de facto second president. Though the prime minister at that time was investigated. Also, all representatives of law enforcement agencies- both high-ranking and field officers who were working, anyone who was a witness and could be of any help needs to be called in for questioning so that the truth can come to the surface without deification. They need to be questioned and give their witness accounts. This doesn’t just mean political will and commitment. The criteria of that law needs to be applied to everyone equally. There are people who have information that until now is not known to the public nor, I believe, to the investigative bodies.”
Raffi Hovhannisyan is convinced that this not only means detached beliefs but lustration too. “Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, serve the state and serve security. They need to give their witness accounts. They need to come out of anonymity. And as far as if the state is prepared for this or not- I think that this is an important question. This is important for the advancement of the state.”
