Head of the Special Investigative Service Sasun Khachatryan, who held an urgent press conference after secret recordings of a conversation with the head of the National Security Service were leaked, made noteworthy announcements regarding the events of March 1st. “Everyone knows that the circumstances surrounding the death of Internal Troops soldier Tigran Abgaryan are uncertain. We have done a lot of work in this direction and we can now say with certainty that Tigran Abgaryan was killed by special units. We have clear evidence of this. He was killed when Kocharyan had already declared a state of emergency, but no soldier had been wounded from gunfire. Our version of events was that Tigran Abgaryan had been wounded by gunfire so that Kocharyan could say that we already have had casualties. The investigation has made that clear. This news was already enough for a real hunt to start against Mr. Vanetsyan and I. That’s why we didn’t announce that information. There have been rumors of oligarchs giving out jackets to their guards. We have already obtained evidence through the criminal case that that is true, and that they received large amounts of military uniforms from the Ministry of Defense’s collection, which were given to oligarchs’ guards. Sasun Khachatryan also said that the March 1st case needs to be examined again, because the information obtained through the investigation made by the previous authorities is suspicious. They need to start working from zero.
Reporters asked whether or not Serzh Sargsyan and Levon Ter-Petrossian will also be questioned. Sasun Khachatryan answered that if they find it necessary, they will call them in, but in what circumstance, he cannot say.
