The National Assembly, initiated by the Republican Party, created a committee after the NSS and SIS heads’ conversation was recorded, and, despite the title of the committee, the “Yelq” and “Tsarukyan” alliances were against the creation of such a committee. The ARF voted in favor of it. The bill passed with 47 for, 14 against.
Until the vote, RPA parliamentarian Samvel Farmanyan said that he is surprised. What else is supposed to happen in a parliamentary republic, what other event needs to take place, in order for an investigative committee to be formed?
Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov said that there is a serious problem. The National Assembly cannot have a passive stance and an unfounded position. “The National Assembly needs to have a concrete plan. That’s why we have the right to form an investigative committee. Everyone who is trying to limit the rights of the parliamentarians are using double standards. I have a question for the “Yelq” parliamentarians. If this happened one year ago, you would’ve started a fight in parliament, and you would’ve demanded that an investigative committee be formed. What changed now? The true story? The true story should not change from the beginning, my friends.”
In the end, it was confirmed. There will be 11 members of the investigative committee- 5 from the RPA, 3 from Tsarukyan, 2 from Yelq, and 1 from the ARF.
