Former parliamentarian Aragats Akhoyan visited Turkish citizen, adolescent Umut Ali, who was arrested for illegally crossing the border and who is currently being kept in a penitentiary institution in Yerevan.
Aragats Akhoyan told Aravot.am that he visited the youth at the request of former Turkish council parliamentarian Ufut Uras. “I said that if the youth’s act poses no danger to the state we’ll try to understand what the problem is and we’ll help him. News has spread that people have bothered the boy in the prison, so I met with him and spoke to him. The boy was very happy. He said that he’s being treated very well, and I myself saw how attentive everyone is towards him. I demanded that he shave, and I even made sure that someone would come and give him a haircut. I think that he’ll be returned home soon, because there’s no reason to keep him here. He was tending to his sheep in the fields and when the sheep crossed the border, he went after them and thus crossed the border.”
16-year-old Turkish citizen Umut Ali Ozmen crossed the Armenian-Turkish border on July 24th and was arrested. He is a resident of the Kucukdurduran village of Akyaka, Kars.
