Georgia: Rural women from Keda municipality participate in international harvest festival in Armenia

September 20,2018 18:08

Five successful women from the Keda Local Action Group in Georgia recently participated in two international events in neighbouring Armenia thanks to EU support.

They joined a further 100 women from different countries who gathered in Yerevan for a conference on “Women in Agriculture” and a “Harvest Festival of Rural Life and Traditions”.

The Georgian women also attended an organic farm and ‘green centre’ on the outskirts of the Armenian capital. On their way back to Georgia they visited the village of Khashtarak, where a beneficiary of the EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD Armenia) presented her raspberry garden and shared her experience of joining the Rural Women Council. The council was established in the framework of the “Strengthening and Engagement of Rural Women in Natural Resources Management in the South Caucasus Countries” project.

The EU supports rural development in Georgia through its ENPARD programme. In Keda Municipality, it aims to diversify local economic activities, improve the investment climate, and empower competitive agricultural and environmental practices via bottom-up strategic planning in rural development.
