‘We won’t have white if we don’t unite all the colors, including black’: President regarding division between black and white

September 21,2018 19:38

President Armen Sarkissian spoke to reporters in his office about the successes that took place during Armenia’s years of independence. Regarding difficulties, he said that our lives are very deep and that we have to overcome difficulties. Today is a day of happiness and we have to remember our great victories. “It was a great victory of the people to show their strength 27 years ago. The patience, inner emotions, and energy that began in 1988 with the Karabakh movement makes it unnecessary to speak about small problems. Remember that you’re a people, you’re Armenians, who’ve existed for thousands of years, not 27.”

When asked if it could be considered an accomplishment of independence when the people showed their strength during the days of the revolution against Serzh Sargsyan, Armen Sarkissian said, “If we go back 27 years ago, we were citizens of the Soviet Union. Freedom and independence were feelings our people experienced for a long time, even during the Soviet years, even during the worst years, such as in 1937 or until 1953. Many Armenians gave their lives for a cause, for one word, and that word was connected to the ideals of homeland, freedom, and humanity.”

Reporters asked him if he had any fears regarding the political field and society after several candidates for mayor in the upcoming Yerevan City Council elections divided the political field between black and white. The president responded as a physicist. “You mentioned two colors- black and white- but in reality, white isn’t just one color. You studied physics, White is all the beautiful colors combined- red, pink, etc. We wouldn’t have white if we didn’t combine all the colors, including black.”
