Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan was present at the president’s office during the ceremony for handing out state medals.
Reporters asked the minister how the situation is at the border. The minister replied, “The situation at the border is relatively stable. We have carried out a few operations which have relatively stabilized the northern border and the Defense Army.”
Speaking about Independence Day, Davit Tonoyan said that this is the most desirable holiday. “I don’t know of any other holiday that is celebrated on the state level that is higher than this.”
Reporters commented that it is frequently mentioned that Armenia is only halfway independent. The minister responded at once, “There’s no such thing. We became independent on September 21, 1991, and we govern ourselves in a very honest manner. All political changes and fluctuations cannot influence our independence, just the opposite- it solidifies our independence.”
Davit Tonoyan, when asked whether our country can confront external challenges given its small size, said, “What there is of our country is what we have. We confront everything and have influence over all processes.”
When asked if he is in favor of having a united Armenia instead of dreaming about two Armenian states, Davit Tonoyan said, “I am already building a united Armenia.”
