Central Electoral Commission President Tigran Mukuchyan does not foresee any issues in dividing up Yerevan City Council mandates. When speaking with reporters after the preliminary results of the elections were released, he only said that according to the law, the mandates are divided between the three political parties which have received six percent, or the alliances that have received eight percent of the overall votes.
When reporters asked if that means that the “My Step” alliance will, therefore, receive the most mandates, Tigran Mukuchyan said, “It’s obvious that that will be the case.”
He said that the political parties which have received the aforementioned percent of votes will also have a place in the city council, but since the “My Step” alliance is the only one to have received at least that many votes, according to the law, the other two political parties which have received the most votes will be a part of the city council. This means that, besides the “My Step” alliance, “Prosperous Armenia” and the “Luys” alliance will also be in the city council.
