‘If Azerbaijan attacks, we need to retaliate in a larger attack’: Tevan Poghosyan

September 25,2018 19:54

“Nothing has changed in the Artsakh conflict resolution process. Even worse, Aliyev is trying to take advantage of the political situation and make the situation at the frontline worse,” said former parliamentarian, political scientist, and Advisor to the President of Armenia Tevan Poghosyan to reporters regarding the latest Azerbaijani provocations at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

“I don’t exclude the possibility of there being tensions at the border this week. We promised that our retaliation this time will be larger than theirs. Let’s hope that this will calm Azerbaijan down,” he said.

Poghosyan also commented on the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s statement, that any Armenian aircraft to come close to the Azerbaijani border during trainings in Artsakh will be destroyed. “This isn’t the first time that they’re trying to present themselves as having a powerful face. But what are we doing? We also need to behave in the same way to defend our border. If they attack, we need to attack in such a way that they don’t dare to do it again,” Tevan Poghosyan said.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan makes such threatening statements when the international community’s attention is on the UN Grand Assembly session. “They can give their opinions during international situations, but the Armenian side shouldn’t wait for there to be military trainings and for them to make new statements. Let the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry play a defensive role and we will be on the offensive side.”
