Kostanyan confirms: Prime Minister, SIS head, NSS head, and judge to be invited to investigative committee

September 26,2018 18:36

After the National Assembly Investigative Committee session, the committee president Gevorg Kostanyan spoke to reporters and said that they formed a list of questions and content, and when they receive information as a result of the questions, they will create a list of people whom they will invite to the committee.

Kostanyan said that naturally, every bit of information and every bit of information given by people who were invited to the committee during the research process might cause there to be a need to invite other people to the committee. “I am particularly speaking about the protection of privacy during phone calls and inviting those who are responsible for that protection, because it’s of utmost importance for us and a constitutional right that we can be assured that no one can become a victim of secret recordings in Armenia and, as you have seen, we also accepted Mr. Bagratyan’s suggestion that we also speak about secret recordings that have taken place in the past. We need to understand that our state apparatus and list of laws are necessary to defend people’s rights in this instance.”

When asking if it will be necessary to invite the heads of the SIS and NSS, the prime minister, and the judge whom they spoke about during their conversation, Kostanyan said, “It’s logical for us to have to invite the aforementioned individuals to a committee session.”

When asked if Robert Kocharyan will be invited, Kostanyan did not reply. Kocharyan is not a figure of authority and it is not mandatory for him to participate in a session, even if he is invited.
