The short conversation between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is important in activating the Karabakh conflict negotiations process. Former Ambassador to Azerbaijan from the USA, former OSCE Minsk group leader Matthew Bryza said this in an interview with the Azerbaijani “Trend” agency.
“Their mutual assurances towards staying loyal to the negotiations process and keeping the ceasefire regime in order to prevent incidents at the Line of Contact and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are steps that are highly welcomed and have been discussed for a long time by the OSCE Minsk group,” Bryza said.
He added that such positive personal meetings are necessary to keep up the negotiations process and they are also a transitional unit in protecting some level of mutual trust, which can be a preliminary step in the negotiations process.
The short conversation between Pashinyan and Aliyev took place in Dushanbe during the CIS summit.
