In parliament, during a questions and answers session with the government, “Yelq” alliance parliamentarian Alen Simonyan asked the prime minister a question regarding National Assembly elections. “Is there any assurance that there will be negotiations? Is there any documentation? Where are we now, what are we seeing regarding that issue?”
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan answered, “Yesterday, during the meeting in the Speaker’s office, I said that there need to be parliamentary elections in Armenia in December. I spoke about the mechanism behind it, and the RPA and Tsarukyan representatives said that they aren’t preparing to nominate a candidate for Prime Minister. Our colleagues have strictly understood the political situation in our country and I think that their logic tells them that having another May 1st will be excessive.”
He said that there have been several publications that do not agree with him. “To be honest, I don’t see that as a huge problem for Armenian citizens and for our government. Problems arise and will continue to for those who are writing such articles because I justified the political suicide of several forces from this very podium on May 1st, 2018, and I can say that sadly, the number of suicides is growing.”
Alen Simonyan asked if it was only the RPA and Tsarukyan factions that agreed not to nominate a candidate, and Pashinyan said, “The Dashnaks also agreed not to do so.”
