Vice Speaker of National Assembly Arpine Hovhannisyan filed a lawsuit

October 05,2018 15:41

Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Arpine Hovhannisyan wrote on her Facebook page,

“Dear colleagues,

I have filed a lawsuit at the police station regarding a crime. The reason behind this is threats against my life and the lives of my family members.

At the same time, I announce that I will be diligent in ensuring that people who write posts and comments aimed towards me that contain swears will be subject to legal responsibility. All mass media outlets can view this post as a warning to remove comments about me that contain swears from all of their platforms, including Facebook. I will be notifying the court about every comment and post about me, and will be filing cases against all subjects who have not deleted their comments or still continue to write abusive comments even after they have been warned. I am prepared to make complete use of the defense of my rights, even, if necessary, to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

P.S. As someone who is completely aware of international characteristics, fundamentals, and precedents, I will be making proper warnings to media outlets and people every time abusive comments are published, despite the fact that our laws and the ECHR do not require prior warnings for abusive comments. This will ensure that media outlets will have time to delete such comments so that it will not get in the way of their work and freedom of speech. Freedom of speech has and always will be one of the highest values for me, but one thing needs to be clear for everyone: abuse cannot remain unpunished.”
