Charles Aznavour’s memorial service took place on October 5th at the Les Invalides complex in Paris. Besides Charles Aznavour’s family members, the French President Emmanuel Macron was present, as well as the country’s entire state elite.
President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the Catholicos, and other spiritual and state figures were also present for the memorial service.
President Macron greeted Prime Minister Pashinyan. The Armenian national anthem was first played, and then the French national anthem. The two countries’ leaders approached Aznavour’s family to shake their hands and to express condolences. The singer’s casket was brought out while the Armenian song “Dle Yaman” was playing, and was covered in the flag of the French Republic. The casket was followed by an arrangement of flowers styled with the colors of the Armenian flag.
The honor of having the first eulogy in honor of the great Aznavour was Nikol Pashinyan. Then, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke.
The Armenian Prime Minister said that Aznavour’s name brought smiles to the faces of millions of people for 8 decades and brought a shine to millions of people’s eyes. “On October 1st, 2018, this name caused the earth and the international community to stand still for a moment.”
Charles Aznavour was taken away, and loud applause was heard for the last time after him.
