RFI wrote about the events that took place in Armenian on October 2nd. “The political crisis in Armenia continues. Yesterday, members of parliament who belonged to the Republican Party- the former ruling party- suggested new changes to take place, which infuriated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. It’s been two days since the protests have begun to have elections until the year is over. There are still problems between the government and the parliament, which the government thinks demanding snap elections is to blame,” wrote Daniel Valon, who is the special reporter in Yerevan for the French radio station.
Daniel Valon held an interview with Vice President of the Republican Party Armen Ashotyan, who said, “The decision to hold snap elections shouldn’t be made by one person, even if that one person happens to be the prime minister. The opinions of the political parties need to be taken into consideration. It’s important that all sides have bilateral discussions which are in accordance with European standards. We don’t want to hurry. The majority of parliament does not like how the prime minister is forcing his personal political goals and wishes on to everyone. We are waiting for him to present himself as a state figure, not as the leader of the public opinion. Any political process, including snap elections, needs to be organized according to the law, constitution, and authorities’ fundamentals.”
