My fellow compatriots,
Since I am led by nationalistic and Christian values, I am very concerned about the way children will grow up given certain information that is spread in our modern world. I and my colleagues have put forth a draft of the law titled, “Children’s Rights,” suggesting changes within the already existing law.
According to these suggested changes, any information or propaganda that is spread that will affect the full development of children’s physical, spiritual, and mental health must be banned.
The state must have a positive responsibility in taking care of the young generation’s physical and mental health. Therefore, propagating drugs, homosexuality, and other terrible phenomena around children needs to be banned.
It is important to note that there is an international question regarding children’s moral health and the state’s role in that. Particularly, the European Court of Human Rights, in the Handsyde v. United Kingdom case in 1976 and in the Hertzberg v. Finland case of 1982, accepted that the state has a role to play in public morality.
Since there are many proposed changes, I think that other legal changes will be proposed as well, which will promote the ideas of the traditional family, the Armenian church, Christianity, and nationalism in our country.
